Let’s get serious, even though Valheim works great as a solo survival experience, it is far better to experience this bizarre Viking world with friends.
Iron Gate AB – Valheim’s developers, have made it very easy for its players to make a server and enjoy a co-op experience easily. However, there does seem to be some confusion when it comes to creating a server and adding your friends to it.
Most people are not aware what the “community server” is for, and whether or not they need it to play with their friends!
How to Add Friends – Valheim
To clear things up from the start, the feature for community server is a way to enable anyone in the world to join your server. Technically, you can use it to play with your friends, but that way anyone can join if they know the password.
This will also make your server appear in the servers’ list, and your premades can join from there. There is another way though. You do not need a community server, you can just add your friends.
Adding your friends is relatively easy in Valheim, follow these steps to do so:
- Launch Valheim.
- Create or choose a world.
- Click on the button “Start Server”.
- Enter a password if you like.
- After that, click Shift + Tab, and you will be able to add your friends to your server/world.
Like I said, if you’re not planning to open up your server to everyone, this is the best way to do it if you only want to enjoy the game with your friends.
Or, if you use the community server feature, your premades can navigate to the “Join Game” tab, and then use the search bar to find your server and join from there.
At the time of writing, this is the way to add players to your servers, although, Valheim is still in early access, and many of the things we are used to might change drastically in the future.
Especially now, when Valheim is getting so many new players, and its player base is growing at the speed of light!
